ASA e-News( The 25th ASA Congress has been postponed.)
Dear Council Presidents,
We would like to thank everyone for your swift response to our recently conducted survey for the 25th ASA Congress whether to proceed or postpone due to continuous global health concerns.
Here's the result of the survey: Postpone indefinitely the 25th ASA Congress to a later date until situation will likely be in control.
While it's sad to see the 25th ASA Congress has been postponed, it's a necessary precaution that many global event organizers have decided to take.
Meantime, we are sharing you a letter from Gin Elbinias, ASA Founding President address to SLAAPS President and ASA President Ruveena Cader (see below).
We thank Ruveena and her Team for working so hard to bring this Congress, hopefully, this breakthrough will lead us to a successful and well-attended Congress.
Further, ASA Honorary President, Sunethra Jayaratne has visited the office of Colombo Ministry of Health and Medical Services to secure advice for holding events, conferences.
Please see attached letter from Dr. Amal Harsha De Silva, Deputy Director General(Medical Services) II, Colombo.
We will keep you updated with regard to when the 25th ASA Congress will be held.
Again, thank you CPs to consider everyone's safety and well-being.
All the best,

Ms. Ruveena Cader
President - ASA
President – SLAAPS
Dear Ruveena,
It is with great pain that I say we have to postpone the ASA Congress to a better atmosphere where it will be safe for us to travel. Let us let 2020 pass. By then we can confidently assure ourselves that our Congress is a success and well-attended.
As of now, travel restrictions are all over. Everybody is fearful to contract the corona virus which is fast spreading globally. Nobody knows where, how and when we can get it. In fact here in Paranaque where I am, two cases have been reported just now.
I am aware of what you and your team have gone through. I even congratulate you for the early notices you’ve put out. However, it is best safe than sorry.
Corona is still spreading and when this will end, we do not know. Granting this will ease up by September, participants are no longer prepared and still would be fearful. We do not want a congress with no attendees.
Why don’t we play it by ear and maybe the later part of this year will enable us to asses our situation and reschedule our congress in the first quarter of 2021 or at a time most convenient for you.
I am really sorry for all the work and preparation you have done, but the global epidemic has left us no choice.
With my love to you all and warmest regards.
Gin Elbinias
President - ASA
